Mother Nature at her Best!

Sugarloaf Island offers an enchanting experience of vine covered walking trails and sandy beaches.

Just across the way from Downtown Morehead City – this beautiful little island is home to white egrets, gray heron, playful otters and other water fowl. Stand on the sandy beach and watch the Dolphin play right off the island.

A short ferry ride on one of our Waterfront Ferry Boats and it’s picture taking time. We suggest you bring comfortable walking shoes and water to drink.

Many of our guests bring a picnic lunch and roam the island until they find that perfect little spot to settle down for a wonderful meal in the great outdoors.

A National Treasure

Shackleford Banks is a 2,500 acre barrier island located across Beaufort Inlet from Atlantic Beach.

Part of the Cape Lookout National Seashore, Shackleford Banks is famous for the wild Shackleford Horses that roam the uninhabited island.

The origin of the Shackleford Horses is steeped in mystery, with the most common legend telling the story of Spanish Mustangs swimming ashore from their wrecked ship.

Today the Shackleford Horses number just over 100, and are closely monitored by the Park Service. They freely roam their island and provide visitors with the rare opportunity to view wild horses in their natural environment.

In addition to the horses, Shackleford Banks offers pristine shelling, fishing and camping adventures.
